Wilmington-area chefs vie to be the next Favorite Chef in national contest

Voting for the Favorite Chef competition started May 30, 2024. Several Wilmington area chefs have entered for the chance to win $25,000 and cook with celebrity chef Carla Hall.

In recent weeks, chefs from around the country have taken to social media in hopes of winning votes in a national competition. That includes several Wilmington-area chefs who want to be named听the next Favorite Chef.听

The competition is operated by Colossal.org (which also offers the Bar Boss and America中出少妇视频檚 Favorite Pet events). This one is hosted by celebrity chef Carla Hall and benefits the James Beard Foundation. The winning chef will get $25,000, and a chance to appear on the cover of Taste of Home magazine and cook with Hall.听听

Each chef was randomly assigned to one of 1,536 groups for voting, which began on May 30. Daily votes are free and others require a donation. There are weekly phases to narrow down the contestants to the Top 5 in each group, determined June 13-20. After that, there are group final and semifinal rounds. The remaining chefs move on and the votes reset in July until the winner is announced on Aug. 2.听

Sheila Pearl Caison

This Brunswick County natives . So of course, some of her favorite dishes include seafood chowder, shrimp and grits, stuffed flounder and shrimp-and-scallop fettuccine. If she won, she said she'd buy new flooring for her church and help her foster daughter with her college debt.

Detonell Devane听

This chef has worked in several local kitchens over the decades of him honing his craft. He中出少妇视频檚 currently at The Sorrow Drowner immersive lounge and restaurant at 19 S. 10th St. in downtown Wilmington. He says cooking is his love language and , he中出少妇视频檇 help his daughter with her dream wedding.听

Lori Eaton听听

This said cooking has taken her all over the world. In addition to working for a wide variety of clients, she is also a culinary volunteer at events like Taste of Wrightsville Beach and those hosted on behalf of Girls Leadership Academy of Wilmington and Beacon Education.听

Christi Ferretti听

This chef is also a volunteer, as well as a caterer and owner at Pine Valley Market. She中出少妇视频檚 also recently become a new partner at Smoke on the Water restaurants. She said she can 中出少妇视频渄o it all ... and off site in random venues and backyards to boot.中出少妇视频澨

Larry Fuller听

This is another local chef with decades of experience. In fact, one of his first jobs was at Crooks by the River, the sister restaurant to Bill Neal中出少妇视频檚 Crooks Corner in Chapel Hill. He He中出少妇视频檚 currently the executive chef at longtime favorite Michael中出少妇视频檚 Seafood in Carolina Beach.听

Atalie Henson听

Henson said she loves to cook and was planning on starting a food truck business before moving to North Carolina. She中出少妇视频檚 currently a Pender County resident who makes food videos and听joined the competition for a chance to spend a day with chef Carla Hall. to make is听chicken pad Thai with crab wontons.听

Khristen Hunter听

This chef is the new听winner of the Own Your Own competition to open her own restaurant in Burgaw. This contest allows her to expand her culinary skills before it opens, hopefully next year. She said she中出少妇视频檚 happiest when cooking for people and seeing the joy it brings. If she won, she中出少妇视频檇听use the money to help her .

Aliesha Johnson听

This chef said she got the cooking bug from her grandmother, who showed her how to make biscuits and cinnamon buns from scratch. She now works in Wilmington at the classic restaurants Elijah中出少妇视频檚 and The Pilot House on the river downtown. Her dream is to 听

Jordan Keen听

This chef has local fine dining experience as the former chef at The Beach Shop & Grill in Topsail Beach and at Dram Yard in downtown Wilmington. He said and expand his culinary reach.听

The chef中出少妇视频檚 friends and colleagues say that they support his efforts in the contest because he is hard working and dedicated to his craft. He中出少妇视频檚 currently in the kitchen at Coquina Fishbar in Mayfaire Town Center near the movie theater.听

Scott Pope

As he's approaching three decades in the culinary world, this to be the best he can be. He said he loves being able to combine elements like fire, smoke, acid, salt, sweet and sour for flavors that are new and familiar at the same time. Most recently, he's been in the kitchen at Epicurean Bistro and now, its original sister restaurant, Sweet n Savory Cafe.
