Why does NC State baseball have jerseys hung up in its dugout?

Three of the four jerseys hanging in the Wolfpack dugout at Georgia belong to injured NC State players in No. 22 Josh Hogue, No. 23 Matt Willadsen and No. 31 Shane Van Dam. Due to the NCAA's size limit on postseason rosters, as teams are unable to carry their full roster, Hogue, Willadsen and Van Dam are unable to travel with the Wolfpack.

As noted by Aaron Fitt, co-editor and national writer at D1Baseball:

Willadsen, a senior right hander for NC State, was the first of the three to go down this season as he on the first day of practice. Then Hogue went down after colliding with center fielder Eli Serrano in the outfield during NC State's game vs. Ball State on April 28. Van Dam is the most recent of the three, as the sophomore right hander sustained a at the start of May against Florida State. Both Willadsen and Van Dam needed Tommy John surgery.

"As great of a player as Chris Combs was, his contribution to NC State baseball goes well beyond statistics and accolades, and far beyond wins and losses," Avent said in a 2020 statement. "He represents the best in human spirit, the best of what it means to wear an NC State baseball jersey, and it's only fitting his number should be honored for everyone who steps into our ballpark to see."
